All PW productions are housed in Theodore Francis Green Hall (TF Green), located at 7 Young Orchard Avenue in Providence, RI. We use two performance venues within the building: the Downstairs space (The Downspace) and the Upstairs space (The Upspace).

If you have questions about the use of TF Green unrelated to seeing or working on a PW show, please contact the TF Green Student Coordinators at tfgreen@brown.edu.

The main entrance of TF Green is located along Young Orchard Avenue (next to the Orwig Music Library) and is wheelchair-accessible. During the day, entrance to TF Green is available only to those with a Brown ID, but doors to the building are open to the public 60 minutes prior to each performance.

parking

Parking is available on the numerous nearby side streets. Street parking is free or metered depending on the spot. Visitors may otherwise park in the Brown University Visitors Parking Lot, also known as the Power Street Parking Garage, at 111 Power Street (about a four-block walk from TF Green). Before 6:00 pm on weekdays, parking is $3/hour; after 6:00 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends, parking is $2/hour. Please note that the lot directly outside of TF Green is reserved for cars with a Brown parking permit.

brown shuttle stops

Brown community members can also use the Brown University Shuttle to reach TF Green.

On the Daytime shuttle, use the Connector Route to get off of the Brook and Power stop, about three blocks from TF Green.
On the Evening shuttles, the Barbour Hall/Public Safety and Perkins/Young Orchard stops are both one block away from TF Green.
If you are coming from or returning to an off-campus location at night, you can request use of the Brown OnCall Shuttle.

entering tf green

The Downspace is a large black box theater that seats up to 100 people per performance. It is immediately to your right as you enter TF Green via a wheelchair-accessible entrance.

The Upspace is a smaller black box theater, most often used for projects as a part of the Upspace Lottery. It is located on the second floor of TF Green.

The typical entrance to the Upspace is via the lobby stairwell from the first floor. If you require use of the elevator, please inform the house managers in the PW Box Office who will gladly assist you.

getting tickets

The PW Box Office is immediately to your left when you enter TF Green. It opens an hour before each show and is staffed by PW board members serving as house managers.

If you ordered a ticket online through this website, please provide your name to the house manager in the box; they will then hand you a program which serves as your ticket.
If you reserved a ticket through a cast or crew member, please give their name to the house manager; they will then hand you your ticket.
If you did not order a ticket online, please inform the house manager how many tickets you’d like; they will then hand you your ticket if there are enough available. Tickets at the door are provided on a first-come, first-serve basis.

All PW productions are free to see.

restrooms

Restrooms are available on both floors of TF Green. The first floor has a men's room and a women's room; the second floor has two gender-inclusive restrooms.

lobby

If you require seating while in the lobby and there is no chair available, please let a house manager know and we will happily provide seating. Doors for Downspace and Upspace productions will open ten minutes before the performance unless otherwise noted by an HM.

seating

For Downspace shows, we use flat seating platforms and folding chairs for all performances (we may also use benches without backs for additional seating). We are more than happy to reserve a wheelchair seat in advance; please contact us via email with the date of your attendance. We are also happy to coordinate early entrance into the Downspace for mobility purposes; please inform the house managers in the box office upon your arrival.

For Upspace shows, the nature of performances varies, so seating may include folding chairs, benches, floor pillows, etc. If the project is produced by PW, this information will be publicized on this website and all our socials and reiterated upon arrival to TF Green.

content warnings

All of our productions use content warnings when necessary. Warnings incorporate both thematic content (e.g. subjects that are referenced or discussed in the work) and sensory content (e.g. the use of strobe lights, loud noises, etc.).

Content warnings are published on the production's event page on this website and all social media posts (Instagram, Facebook) advertising the production, listed in the program, and announced at the top of the show by the house managers. If you have trouble locating a content warning or have additional questions about a particular production, please contact us.

leaving the space

Should you need to leave at any point during a performance — to use the bathroom, to eat a snack, to find a quieter space — please do so! Our lobby remains open during all performances. If you would like to sit in the lobby, please contact the house manager who will gladly find you a folding chair.

programs

If you require a large-print program, please email us at least a day in advance of your visit.

pw board meetings

During the semester, the PW Board holds weekly meetings to discuss productions currently underway, upcoming projects and events, maintenance of TF Green, and other topics related to work at and with PW. These meetings are always open to the Brown community, and we'd love to see you there!

We usually hold board meetings every Sunday at 11AM in the Upspace, but it is best to email us before to check in on the location or time of a particular week's meeting.

There is no need to RSVP for a meeting — simply stop by as you'd like! During the meeting, you can contribute as much or as little as feels comfortable and ask as many questions as you need. We welcome your participation in any form.

If you'd like to see the agenda in advance, please email us at production.workshop@gmail.com and we'll provide you a copy. If you have a specific topic that you'd like to bring up in conversation with the board, you can notify us ahead of time or share it at the top of the meeting.

All board meetings end with a period of "business" where anyone at the meeting (including you!) can bring up comments or ideas that didn't fit into previous agenda items. Sometimes, we'll enter "closed business" after regular business, during which we'll ask you to leave the meeting. We do this because things discussed in closed business are considered confidential to the board, but we'll always give you an ample heads-up before that happens.

Minutes are taken during the meeting and record individual comments and names of those present. These minutes are open to the public to read. If at any point you would prefer your comments and/or name not to be taken down in the minutes, please let us know.
